Well, I have to say that I am glad to be back in Clayton. We have realized that you don't appreciate what you have until it is compared to something else. It is nice to be back where we have access to a refrigerator, plates and bowls, free internet access, and our own room! :) Once we returned from Sydney, we spent the afternoon working on one of our projects and then started the task of laundry after work. We also went to the grocery store and got food for the next week. We had not bought any milk or cereal yet, so it was so nice this morning to have some! :)
There are also two French pharmacy students from Montpelier, named Aude and Cristelle, and we got to meet them and have dinner with them last night! My French is a little rusty from high school, so thank goodness they know more English than I do French. We talked about life and pharmacy in the US and in France and made plans for the rest of the week.
Today, we went to Dandenong Hospital, which is part of the Southern Health network, of which Clayton is the hub. We spent the day with the ICU pharmacist, wrote up an ADR (adverse drug reaction) on a patient with interstitial nephritis, and reviewed several patients. The pharmacist we were with was super nice and we had a nice discussion about Christmas traditions in the US and in Australia...we even agreed to swap some recipes!
For those of you pharmacy folk, we were so surprised by their TPN service. They have a standard bag that they use in every patient. That means that everyone gets the same amount of glucose, protein, potassium, and volume etc.! I was horrified after spending a month calculating TPN orders at LeBonheur! However, it seems to work for them here and it is just another example of how there are many different ways to accomplish the same goal! :)
Hope you all are having a great week!
