Hi everyone! We have had a busy few days here in Sydney. On Saturday, we went to Paddy's Market, which had everything from fake hair to fresh fruits and vegetables! I found a really neat international soccer store and found several presents there. We probably spent about 3-4 hours just looking around the market. My new favorite snack is Wasabi peas (see attached picture). They are really hot, but are very tasty! I will bring some back for whoever wants to try them.
We went to see Don Quixote on Saturday night, which was spectacular! It was a ballet performance and the costumes were beautiful. The Opera House is one of the most beautiful sites in Sydney.
Today we went to the Royal Easter Show at the Olympic site right outside of Sydney. It was like a state fair x 20! As soon as we entered the show, we were bombarded by a creation called a "show bag", which were all over the place! They even had a special show bag hall. You could buy a bag that had any assortment of candy, plus they had Bob the Builder and Hello Kitty stuff for kids (see attached picture). I then found "Fairy Floss", aka cotton candy, and joined all of the other kids and kids-at-heart in the sticky mess. We went to view all of the livestock, including cows, pigs, goats, alpacas, cats, dogs, etc. We watched a dog agility performance, saw a cat show, and then went to the International Woodchopping Competition for Women, where lo and behold, the US Women Woodchopping Team was competing. We had a blast watching a woodchopping relay and were the only people in the crowd singing the American anthem when it was played (they were up against Australia and New Zealand, against whom they sadly lost.) We ended our day in the Arts/Crafts/Food arena, and tried many different food samples. We had a great Easter, even though it was very different from Easters before.
Tomorrow, we head to Hunter Valley Wine/Cheese Country! I hope you all have/had a Happy Easter!
